Rio Hondo College women's soccer standout Maritza Acuna and wrestler Daniel Romero have been named 2015-16 Athletes of the Year while Venus Fields has been named the Dancer of the Year for the Roadrunners.

Three more members of the record-setting 2015 Rio Hondo College Women's Soccer team have signed National Letters of Intent with four-year universities to continue their academic and athletic careers. Christina Holguin has signed with San Francisco State University, while Courtney Gonzalez and Alexis Marinero will be competing at Ottawa University in Kansas next fall.

WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College’s new $3.8 million soccer complex provides world-class venue fitting for its nationally ranked student athletes as well as a facility that will serve the campus community in a variety of ways, speakers announced at a grand-opening celebration on Wednesday.

Rio Hondo College sophomore defender and co-captain Maritza Acuna has been named the National Soccer Coaches Assocition of America (NSCAA) Junior College Scholar National Player of the Year for 2015.

As announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Janeth Acuna and Maritza Acuna received NSCAA All-America honors following Rio Hondo College's stellar 2015 women's soccer campaign.

It wasn't the ending the Rio Hondo College women's soccer team was hoping for, but head coach Jennifer Tanaka can definitely be proud of her squad's historic season after the Roadrunners finished in second place at the CCCAA Soccer State Championship over the weekend.

Rio Hondo College is headed to the CCCAA Soccer State Championship for the first time in program history thanks to the Roadrunners' 1-0 win over Moorpark College on Saturday in Round 3 of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
