Women's Soccer: Holguin, Gonzalez, Marinero sign letters of intent

Three more members of the record-setting 2015 Rio Hondo College Women's Soccer team have signed National Letters of Intent with four-year universities to continue their academic and athletic careers. Christina Holguin has signed with San Francisco State University, while Cortney Gonzalez and Alexis Marinero will be competing at Ottawa University in Kansas next fall.

The trio joins twin sisters Maritza Acuna and Janeth Acuna who are already both enrolled and practicing this spring at UC Irvine as well as Cassie Duran who is also already attending classes at Cal State Fullerton in preparation for the upcoming fall season.

Holguin recently completed one of the finest season in goal in school history for the Roadrunners. She allowed just 12 goals over 22 games for a 0.60 goals against average. She totaled 74 saves and posted nine shutouts.

San Francisco State competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Tracy Hamm will begin her second season as head coach at SF State in 2016 after leading the Gators to an 8-7-3 overall record last season.

Gonzalez helped anchor a Rio Hondo defense that totaled 11 shutouts and allowed just 0.57 goals per game. She chipped in with two assists in 2015.

Marinero was a first-team All-Foothill Conference selection as a sophomore as well as a second-team selection in 2014 at the midfield position for the Roadrunners. She totaled eight points off a goal and six assists.

Ottawa University, located in Ottawa, Kan., competes at the NAIA level and is a member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Association. Marc Gordon will enter his seventh season as head coach at Ottawa in 2016 and led the Braves to a 14-4 overall record.
