A four-run, fourth-inning by Orange Coast College doomed the Rio Hondo College softball team as the Roadrunners suffered a 4-1 loss in Costa Mesa on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Madeline Peralta and freshman Yaritza Lechuga combined for a no hitter while sophomore Kelly Monroy and freshman Ashley Bravo drove in two runs each to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 10-0 South Coast Conference at Compton College on Tuesday.

Rio Hondo College sent 18 batters to the plate in an epic top of the first inning that saw the Roadrunners score 15 runs. Rio Hondo went on to cruise to a 21-3 victory in a mercy-rule shortened game that lasted just five innings at Santa Monica College on Tuesday to snap a two-game losing streak.

Rio Hondo College’s bats were definitely ready for the season to begin. On Friday, the Roadrunners banged out 14 hits on its way to an impressive 16-3, five-inning mercy-rule win over visiting San Bernardino Valley College in both teams’ season-opener.
