Softball: Roadrunners close out week with 4-1 loss at Orange Coast

A four-run, fourth-inning by Orange Coast College doomed the Rio Hondo College softball team as the Roadrunners suffered a 4-1 loss in Costa Mesa on Friday afternoon.

Rio Hondo totaled six hits but left nine runners on base. The Roadrunners scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning. Kaylie Cervantes reached base thanks to an OCC error and two batters later, came in to score on a wild pitch.

Katherine Arroyo went 2 for 3 to lead the Roadrunners at the plate. Grace Acero took the loss for Rio Hondo. She tossed 2+ innings, allowing two earned runs and four hits. Madeline Peralta (3 innings) and Yaritza Lechuga (1 inning) closed out the contest with scoreless outings.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 5-6 overall. The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 18) when they travel to El Camino College for a 3 p.m. South Coast Conference game.
