Baseball: Rio Hondo win streak at 8 with sweep of Cerro Coso

Rio Hondo College surged to its eighth straight win on Saturday after wrapping up a sweep of Cerro Coso College. The Roadrunners closed out the three-game Foothill Conference series sweep with an impressive 16-4 victory at Cerro Coso. Rio Hondo is now 19-11 overall and 14-4 in conference play with six games left to play.

The Roadrunners pounded out a season-high 26 hits and tied a season-best with 16 runs. Rio Hondo jumped out early with four runs in the top of the first and broke the game open with a seven-run, third inning to go ahead 11-0.

Left fielder Albert Perez led the charge for the Roadrunners as he went 5 for 6 with 3 RBI. Catcher Danny Marquez added four hits while Mauricio Guadarrama, R.J. Romo, Fernando Rosales, and Jordan Abernathy all collected three hits.

Cameron Legrand improved to 4-0 with the win for Rio Hondo. He went seven innings and allowed three runs (0 earned) and six hits.

Rio Hondo opens a huge series with Foothill Conference-leading Chaffey College on Tuesday (Apr. 19). Rio Hondo hosts the Panthers in the opener at 2:30 pm with Game 2 at Chaffey on Thursday and the finale back at The Jungle on Saturday at 12 pm.
