Women’s Volleyball: Rio Hondo battles No. 3 Pasadena City in four-set loss

The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team put up a fight but couldn't get past No. 3 state-ranked Pasadena City College. On Wednesday, the Roadrunners stretched the Lancers to four sets before falling by scores of 25-8, 25-19, 27-29, 20-25 in Pasadena.

Rio Hondo fell to 8-14 overall and 6-9 in South Coast Conference action while PCC moved to 18-1 and a perfect 13-0 in conference.

After pulling out a marathon 29-27 win in Set 3 to avoid the sweep, Rio Hondo nearly forced a deciding fifth set. The set was tied at 14 before PCC jumped ahead 17-14. An attack error by the Lancers got Rio Hondo within one point at 18-17 but Pasadena won the next five points on its way to the victory.

Ariel Garcia led Rio Hondo with 10 kills on the night. Nadine Oronez had a good match with 19 digs and 7 kills while Faith Wada had 32 assists. Alina Velo chipped in with 8 kills and 3 blocks.

The Roadrunners close out the regular season on Friday (Nov. 5) when they host Mt. San Antonio College in a 6 p.m. SCC match.
