Rio Hondo College sophomore Joe Wills tossed a three-hit shutout to help lead the Roadrunners to a 2-0 Foothill Conference win over visiting Barstow College on Tuesday at the Jungle. The victory was the third straight for Rio Hondo improved the Roadrunners to 14-11 overall and 9-4 in conference play.
Wills struck out eight and walked just one in picking up the win to improve to 6-1 overall this season. He allowed just one runner to reach second base.
Fernando Rosales lined a RBI single to score Jordan Abernathy in the fourth while Abernathy drove in Mauricio Guadarrama with a single in the seventh to provide all the scoring Wills would need.
Abernathy had a perfect day at the plate, going 4 for 4 to collect half of the Roadrunners eight hits in the contest.
Rio Hondo continues its three-game Foothill Conference series against Barstow on Thursday (Apr. 8) when the Roadrunners hit the road for a 2:30 p.m. game. The series concludes on Saturday (Apr. 10) back in Whittier at 12:30 p.m.
