Baseball: Roadrunners edged 2-1 at Barstow

Rio Hondo College had its four-game winning streak snapped after a narrow 2-1 Foothill Conference defeat at Barstow College on Saturday. The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 6-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Rio Hondo couldn't get much offense going as the Roadrunners totaled just five hits. Barstow scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings before Rio Hondo finally put up run up on the board in the ninth.

Mauricio Guadarrama led off the ninth with a single and three batters later came in to score on a passed ball. Guadarrama went 2 for 4 to lead the Roadrunners at the plate.

Brady Carlson pitched well for Rio Hondo despite taking the loss. He went the distance, allowing two runs and seven hits while striking out nine. He fell to 1-3 overall.

Jonah Yang went 2 for 4 and drove in both Barstow runs. The Vikings improved to 5-8 overall and 3-0 in the Foothill Conference with the win.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Tuesday (Mar. 8) when the Roadrunners host Cerro Coso College in a 2 p.m. conference game.
