Baseball: Five-run, second-inning leads Rio Hondo to fourth straight win

A big five-run, second-inning proved to be more than enough offense for Rio Hondo College as the Roadrunners won their fourth straight game. On Thursday, Rio Hondo defeated visiting San Bernardino Valley College by a final score of 7-2 in a Foothill Conference game at RHC.

Since dropping its first five games of the season, Rio Hondo has won six of its last eight to improve to 6-7 overall and 2-0 in Foothill Conference play.

Jordan Abernathy had a good game at the plate as he went 3 for 5 with two RBI and run to lead the Roadrunners offense. He hit a RBI single in the second and smacked a run-scoring double in the sixth for Rio Hondo's final run.

Gabe Chavez, Mauricio Guadarrama, Mike Hernandez, and Danny Marquez all had two hits for the Roadrunners.

Joe Wills improved to 3-0 on the season. He went seven innings, allowing two runs and eight hits. Wills struck out six and walked three. Anthony Franco closed out the win, allowing just one hits over the final two innings.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 5) when the Roadrunners travel to Victor Valley College for a 12 p.m. Foothill Conference game.
