Rio Hondo College freshman Maribel Solis scored a game-high five goals, including the game-winner with 33 seconds left to play, to help lead Rio Hondo College to a narrow 9-8 South Coast Conference win at Pasadena City College on Monday.

The Roadrunners' first conference victory moved their SCC record to 1-3 and 3-9 overall.

Solis gave Rio Hondo a 2-1 lead in the first with a pair of goals while Sabrina Miller poured in two of her three goals in the second quarter, including one at the buzzer to put the Roadrunners in front 5-4 heading into halftime.

Solis and Miller each scored once in the third as the game was tied heading into the final period. Evalina Macias scored at 6:09 to put Rio Hondo back out in front before PCC's Jennifer Ortega tied the match once again with a goal at the 5:31 mark.

But with time winding down, Brenda Vazquez connected with Solis for the assist on the game-winning goal, securing the road victory for the Roadrunners.

Macias was credited with four assists while Vazquez had two. Rio Hondo goalkeeper Annie Manukyan totaled 15 saves for the win.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 4) when it hosts Long Beach City College in a 3 p.m. SCC game.
