Women’s Volleyball: No. 15 Rio Hondo sweeps ELAC for sixth straight win

WHITTIER – The No. 15 state-ranked Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team cruised to its sixth consecutive victory, a 25-16, 25-18, 25-20 South Coast Conference sweep of visiting No. 19 East Los Angeles College on Wednesday night.

The Roadrunners remain perfect in conference play at 5-0 and improved to 10-3 overall. East Los Angeles suffered just its third loss of the season and fell to 16-3 overall, 3-2 in the SCC. The Huskies were ranked as high as No. 9 earlier in the year.

As a team, Rio Hondo compiled a season-best .306 hitting percentage for the match. Maria Bejines once again led the attack with 16 kills on 30 attempts (.333) while Jade Fuentes put together an amazing line of 13 kills on 24 attempts with just 2 errors for a .458 hitting percentage.

Jaida Zuniga led the defense with 19 digs, Fuentes added 12 and Bejines totaled 11 digs. Carly Kejmar led with 29 assists and Madison Mader added 12 assists, 4 kills, and 6 digs.

 Rio Hondo is back in action next Wednesday (Oct. 4) when the Roadrunners host LA Harbor College in a 6 p.m. South Coast Conference match.
