Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners hold steady at No. 20 after extending winning streak to 6

Rio Hondo College kept its position at No. 20 in the latest California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Rankings that were released on Tuesday. | STATE RANKINGS

The Roadrunners picked up two more sweep victories last week to extend their winning streak to six matches. On Wednesday, Rio Hondo cruised to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) win at home against Long Beach City College and followed that with another straight-set victory (25-21, 25-17, 25-21) at East Los Angeles College.

Over the two matches, sophomore Nadine Oronoz totaled 25 kills and 26 digs while freshman Maria Bejines combined for 20 kills and 26 digs.

Rio Hondo has swept its last three opponents and hasn't lost since a 3-0 defeat to El Camino College on Oct. 7. The Roadrunners, now 12-5 overall and 8-2 in conference play, will get another shot at the Warriors on Wednesday (Nov. 9) at 6 p.m. when they host El Camino in their final regular-season home contest.

Rio Hondo follows Wednesday's match with the regular-season finale next Tuesday (Nov. 15) at Pasadena City College.

With two SCC matches to play, the Roadrunners trail conference-leading Mt. San Antonio College by one match. Rio Hondo handed the Mounties their lone SCC loss of the season as Mt. SAC is 9-1 and 17-4 overall. Mt. SAC closes out its schedule with home matches vs. Long Beach on Friday and East Los Angeles next Tuesday.

Two wins by Rio Hondo and at least one loss by Mt. SAC would give the Roadrunners at least a share of its first-ever South Coast Conference championship.
