Women’s Volleyball: No. 21 Rio Hondo adds two more wins to impressive run

NORWALK – No-21 state-ranked Rio Hondo College continues to play its best volleyball of the season. On Friday, the Roadrunners pushed their winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 South Coast Conference sweep at Cerritos College. This came two days after Rio Hondo rolled to a 3-1 non-conference win at home against College of the Desert on Wednesday.

Rio Hondo has won eight of its last nine matches to improve to 10-5 overall. With a 6-2 conference mark, the Roadrunners currently sit in third place just behind Mt. SAC (8-1) and El Camino (7-2).

On Friday, Rio Hondo swept Cerritos for the second time this season. The Roadrunners took the match by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-21.

"I'm very proud of my team," said head coach Teddi Esko of her surging squad. "They executed our game plan and met their goal of bringing home another South Coast Conference win."

Rio Hondo received numerous contributions to the win. Nadine Oronoz totaled 12 kills and 17 digs, Faith Lee posted 13 kills and 9 digs, Faith Wada had 21 assists and 21 digs, while Maria Bejines added 17 digs, 5 kills, and 3 blocks.

Oronoz had another huge match to help lead Rio Hondo to the 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-17 win on Wednesday against Desert.

She posted team-highs with 14 kills and 19 digs to pace her squad.

Daniela Sanchez also had 19 digs, Lee added 8 kills and 15 digs, while Wada chipped in with 15 assists, 13 digs, and 4 aces. Bejines contributed 8 kills, 5 digs, and 4 blocks.

Rio Hondo returns to South Coast Conference action on Wednesday (Nov. 2) when the Roadrunners host Long Beach City College in a 6 p.m. match.
