Women’s Volleyball: Rio Hondo gets No. 15 seed for playoffs

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL PLAYOFFS BRACKET

The Rio Hondo College women's volleyball team is back in the postseason for the first time since 2012. On Thursday, the Roadrunners were named the No. 15 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Rio Hondo will host No. 18 seed San Diego City College in a Play-In Round match on Saturday (Nov. 23) at 4 p.m. Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) postseason event at the Rio Hondo gym are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.

Rio Hondo is coming off a third-place finish at the South Coast Conference Championship tournament. On Tuesday, the Roadrunners earned a much-needed 3-1 victory over Pasadena City College that likely secured their spot in the playoffs.

Rio Hondo enters the postseason with a 15-11 overall record and closed out the conference schedule with a 9-8 mark. The Roadrunners have won four of their last five matches.

San Diego City is 14-10 overall and recently finished fourth in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference with a 10-6 record.

Rio Hondo will face the Knights for the second time this season. On Sep. 11, the Roadrunners defeated SDCC 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21) in Whittier. A win over San Diego City would advance the Roadrunners to a Round 1 match at No. 2 Grossmont College (24-3) on Tuesday (Nov. 26).

Three wins are needed by Rio Hondo to advance the CCCAA Women's Volleyball State Championships scheduled for Dec. 6-8 at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
