Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners bounce back with win over Mt. SAC

Rio Hondo College freshman Alina Velo totaled a season-high 16 kills to help lead the Roadrunners to a 3-1 win over visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday.

The 25-11, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19 South Coast Conference win improved Rio Hondo to 12-10 overall and 6-7 in the SCC. The Roadrunners wrap up the regular season on Friday (Nov. 8) and will honor their sophomores prior to the 6 p.m. match against Cerritos College.

Velo was strong from the start, slamming home five kills in the first set while closing out the victory with five more in the fourth.

Danielle Betancourt was also a force on offense, as she had nine kills on 12 attempts and hit an impressive .667 for the match. Katherina O'Brien also chipped in with eight kills while Aliah Trujillo posted 32 assists and five aces.

On defense, Janine Coria led Rio Hondo with 14 digs and Mara Sanchez had 10 digs.
