Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners drop SCC North match to East LA

The home court for Rio Hondo College hasn't been so kind this season for the Roadrunners women's volleyball team. Rio Hondo is still in search of its first home victory after a 3-0 South Coast Conference North Division loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Wednesday.

The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the SCC North. Rio Hondo is 0-7 at home this season.

Despite the sweep by the Huskies, Rio Hondo was competitive in each set and lost the match by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-20

Felipa Moreno led Rio Hondo on offense with 7 kills. Danielle Betancourt posted 5 kills while Vania Maciel and Sierra Smethurst both had 4 kills each. Smethurst also had a team-best 4 blocks on the night.

Mara Sanchez led the back line with 12 digs do go with a pair of aces and Aliah Trujillo totaled 13 assists and 2 aces. Nicole Vasquez also had a good all-around match with 6 digs, 3 kills, and 3 aces.

Rio Hondo will look to snap its home losing streak on Friday (Oct. 19) at 6 p.m. when the Roadrunners host Cerritos College in a SCC interdivision match.
