Women's Tennis: Roadrunners beat Palomar, VVC for consecutive wins

The Rio Hondo College women's tennis team put together its best week of the 2017 season as the Roadrunners picked up consecutive non-conference wins on the road. On Tuesday, Rio Hondo defeated Palomar College by a final score of 6-3 and cruised past Victor Valley College with a 9-0 shutout win on Thursday.

Thanks to a sweep in doubles as well singles wins at the bottom of the lineup, Rio Hondo earned the victory in Escondido on Tuesday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Nicole Robbins and Jessica Diaz, the No. 2 squad of Ruth Arciniega and Jessica Esquivel, and the No. 3 duo of Erika Garfias and Lina Kazarova set the tone early for the match with their wins. Closing out the team win for the Roadrunners at singles were Garfias at No. 4, Esquivel at No. 5, and Kazarova at No. 6.

The Roadrunners kept the good momentum going with the big win in Victorville. In singles, Robbins (No. 1), Diaz (No. 2), Arciniega (No. 3), Garfias (No. 4), Esquivel (No. 5, and Kazarova (No. 6) were all winners. And in doubles, the teams of Robbins/Diaz (No. 1), Arciniega/Esquivel (No. 2), and Garfias/Kazarova (No. 3) earned victories.

Rio Hondo is now 3-7 overall and next plays a non-conference match at San Diego City College on Tuesday (Mar. 28).
