Rio Hondo College freshman Alexis Macias scored her state-leading 18th goal of the season and the Roadrunners' defense posted its third shutout in a 2-0 South Coast Conference victory at El Camino College on Friday.

The No. 7 state-ranked Roadrunners improved to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Ashley Vera got Rio Hondo on the board early, scoring in the eighth minute off the double assist from Brianna Revelez and Jackie Marin.

The score remained 1-0 for nearly the remainder of the first half until Alice Hernandez made a nice play to steal the ball from an El Camino defender. She fed Macias on the goal to extend the Rio Hondo lead. Macias has been nearly unstoppable this season, scoring goals in all nine of Rio Hondo's games.

The contest was even throughout but neither team was able to score in the second half. El Camino outshot Rio Hondo by a 15-14 margin, but Roadrunner goalkeeper Daniella Marin came up with three saves to keep the shutout intact.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 12) when they host Long Beach City College in a 6 p.m. South Coast Conference game.
