Women’s Soccer: No. 13 Rio Hondo beats Cerritos for fourth straight win

The No. 13 nationally-ranked Rio Hondo College women's soccer team surged to its fourth straight win, this time handing visiting Cerritos College a 3-0 shutout loss in a South Coast Conference game on Friday.

The Roadrunners are unbeaten over their last eight games and improved to 10-1-3 overall. They lead the SCC with a 3-0 record. The win snapped Cerritos' seven-game unbeaten streak and dropped the Falcons 8-4-2 and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Rio Hondo jumped out a to 2-0 lead at halftime as the Roadrunners got a penalty kick goal from Janessa Gallardo and a goal from Vivian Viramontes. Serina Vargas broke free in the second half to close out the game's scoring.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Oct. 29) when they host El Camino College in a 6 p.m. SCC game.
