Women’s Soccer: SCC champion Roadrunners get No. 3 seed for SoCal Regionals

2017 CCCAA/SOCAL REGIONAL BRACKET

Fresh off their second consecutive South Coast Conference North Division championship, the Rio Hondo College women's soccer team has been named the No. 2 seed for the upcoming 2017 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The Roadrunners will host the winner of No. 14 Fullerton College and No. 19 Ventura College as part of a playoff doubleheader at the Rio Hondo Soccer Complex on Saturday, Nov. 18. The No. 8-seed Rio Hondo men's soccer team will take on No. 9 Santa Monica College at 4 p.m. followed by the women's playoff game at 7 p.m.

Rio Hondo enters the postseason with a 14-3-2 overall record and went a perfect 8-0 in SCC North Division play. The conference championship is the fourth straight for the Roadrunners and head coach Jennifer Tanaka-Hoshijo after winning their first-ever SCC North title last year as well as consecutive Foothill Conference championships in 2014 and 2015.

Fullerton is 11-6-3 overall heading into the playoffs and finished in fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference with an 8-5-3 mark. Ventura earned the final playoff spot with a 9-11-2 overall record and finished third in the Western State Conference North Division at 4-4.

The winner of Saturday's first-round game will advance to face either No. 6 Santiago Canyon College (17-2-1) or No. 11 Saddleback College (10-5-5). Three wins are needed to advance to the CCCAA Soccer State Championship on Dec. 1 & 3 at American River College in Sacramento.

The Roadrunners will look to return to the state championships after reaching the title game in 2015.
