Rio Hondo College allowed goals in the 74th and 77th minute and went on to suffer a 2-1 non-conference loss at Ventura College on Friday. The setback dropped Rio Hondo to 2-2-1 overall with just one final tuneup remaining before the Roadrunners open South Coast Conference North Division play.

After a scoreless first half, Rio Hondo took advantage of a Ventura mistake to take the 1-0 lead early in the second. Sam Garcia's shot that appeared to be headed wide was redirected by a Ventura defender into the net to give Rio Hondo the advantage.

The score remained tied all the way until the 74th minute. Paulina Aldrete beat Rio Hondo goalkeeper Izella Delgadillo with her shot to tie up the contest. And in the 77th, Audrey Castillo knocked in the eventual game-winner to complete the rally for the Pirates.

Delgadillo totaled a pair of saves in the defeat while Madison Mader was credited with the assist on the Roadrunners' goal.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Sep. 22) when the Roadrunner host Santa Monica College in a 2 p.m. game. Next Tuesday (Sep. 26), SCC North play gets underway for Rio Hondo when it hosts Chaffey College at 6 p.m.
