Women's Soccer: Rio Hondo beats San Diego Mesa 2-1, falls to DVC

The Rio Hondo College women's soccer team split its opening games of the 2017 season at the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase in Ventura. On Thursday, the Roadrunners were victorious in their opener, defeating San Diego Mesa College 2-1. But the good vibes didn't last as Rio Hondo suffered a 3-1 loss to Diablo Valley College on Friday.

Rio Hondo, 1-1, returns to action on Wednesday (Sep. 6) at 3 p.m. when the Roadrunners travel to Orange Coast College for a non-conference game.

San Diego Mesa jumped out to a 1-0 lead before the Roadrunners responded with a pair of first-half goals to pull out the win. Flor Suarez got Rio Hondo on the board thanks to the assist from Sam Garcia before Emma Contreras netted the game-winner off the assist from Izella Delgadillo.

Delgadillo played well in goal and earned the victory for Rio Hondo.

Diablo Valley 3, Rio Hondo 1
The Roadrunners closed tourney play by taking on DVC from Pleasant Hill in Northern California on Friday. A goal in the 10th minute from Breanna Alvarado (Garcia assist) gave Rio Hondo an early lead. But Diablo Valley responded with a pair of goals by Noelle Lemos in the first half and added an insurance score by Marjan Haydaree to secure the win.
