Women's Soccer: Lopez late goal leads Rio Hondo to 1-0 win over Harbor

No. 17 nationally-ranked Rio Hondo College extended its winning streak to four games while staying unbeaten for the season as the Roadrunners got a late goal from sophomore Gracie Lopez to defeat Los Angeles Harbor College 1-0 in Wilmington on Tuesday.

The South Coast Conference interdivision win improved the Roadrunners to 10-0-4 overall while LA Harbor dropped to 8-6-2.

Despite getting 10 shots on goal and controlling the tempo of the contest, the Roadrunners get past LA Harbor goalkeeper Nitzia Gastillo. But finally in the 87th minute, sophomore Erika Lizarraga set up Lopez for the eventual game-winning goal that turned a likely tie into a Rio Hondo victory.

Sophomore Jenny Garcia made five saves in goal for Rio Hondo to post the Roadrunners' seventh shutout of the season.

Up next for Rio Hondo, the Roadrunners will face their biggest challenge of the season on Friday (Oct. 28) at 2 p.m. Rio Hondo will face No. 2 nationally-ranked Cerritos College in a rematch of last year's CCCAA State Championship final in Norwalk.
