Women's Soccer: Rio Hondo hangs on for 3-2 win at El Camino

Freshman Samantha Garcia scored a pair of goals to help extend Rio Hondo College's unbeaten streak to 12 games as the Roadrunners picked up a 3-2 South Coast Conference interdivision win at El Camino College in Torrance on Tuesday. The victory improved Rio Hondo to 8-0-4 overall and 2-0-2 in conference play.

Three goals in the first half for the Roadrunners were all they would need to pull out the victory. Garcia's first goal in the seventh minute gave Rio Hondo an early lead.

El Camino got the equalizer shortly after with a goal by Kathryn Wilson in the ninth minute before Garcia broke free again to put Rio Hondo out in front for good with a score in the 12th minute. Moments later, an El Camino own-goal sent the Roadrunners into the break with a 3-1 halftime advantage.

The second half was more of a defensive battle as El Camino managed a goal in the 60th minute to get within one of Rio Hondo. But the Roadrunners were able to limit any further El Camino opportunities to secure the win.

Jenny Garcia picked up the victory in goal for the Roadrunners as she totaled two saves. Emma Contreras, Gracie Lopez, and Madison Mader were all credited with assists.

The loss dropped El Camino to 7-3-4 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. Olivia Hover and Isabel Rojas combined to post three saves in goal for the Warriors.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Oct. 21) when the Roadrunners host Long Beach City College in a 2 p.m. SCC interdivision game.
