Wrestling: Roadrunners wrap up season with 7th place finish at State Championships

LEMOORE – Led by a third-place finish by sophomore Alexis Tellez, Rio Hondo College totaled 60 points to finish in seventh place out of 21 teams at the 2022 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Wrestling State Championships. The two-day event wrapped up on Saturday night at West Hills College Lemoore's Golden Eagle Arena.

Head coach Mike Tellez has now led the Roadrunners to eight straight top-15 team finishes at the state championships. Rio Hondo matched the program's best finish at state, as the 2011 Roadrunners also took seventh.

The Roadrunners sent a program-record 11 wrestlers on to state with four placing among the top-seven.

By placing in the top four of their weight class, Tellez (3rd, 125-pounds), Devin Martinez (4th, 133), and Emitt Mercado (4th, 285) earned All-American honors for the Roadrunners.

Also placing for Rio Hondo, Dylan Atherton was seventh at 125 pounds.
