Wrestling: Tellez named conference coach of the year, Roadrunners earn six postseason honors

Following another impressive Rio Hondo College wrestling season, the Roadrunners totaled six All-Southwest Conference postseason honors. Topping the list is head coach Mike Tellez who was named the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year.

Rio Hondo recently finished in ninth place at the CCCAA State Championships. It was the program's best showing since a seventh-place finish in 2011. Tellez has led the Roadrunners to top-15 state championship finishes over the past six consecutive seasons.

Earning first-team honors were 133-pound state champion Khalil Tucker, 149-pound state runner up Christian Espinoza, and fifth-place state finisher Andy Voong at 197 pounds.

Second-team selections were Adrian Guevara at 125 pounds and Diego Sanchez at 285 pounds.
