Led by a pair of third place and fourth place finishes, Rio Hondo College totaled 46.5 points to finish in eighth place at the West Hills College Invitational tournament in Lemoore on Saturday.

Leading the way for the Roadrunners were James Schmidt and Khalil Howard. Schmidt took third place at the 157-pound weight class while Howard was fourth at 149 pounds.

In the women's division, Alejandra Maldonado took third place at 120 pounds while teammate Melissa Estrada was fourth, also at 120.

"The team wrestled well," said Rio Hondo head coach Mike Tellez. "They really stepped it up for the tournament. This is one of the toughest tournaments in the state, so we saw some good competition."

Rio Hondo returns to action next Saturday (Sept. 30) when they travel to compete at the Santa Ana College Tournament.
