Women’s Basketball: Rio Hondo named No. 15 seed for SoCal Playoffs

The postseason run for the Rio Hondo College women's basketball team officially begins this week as the Roadrunners were named the No. 15 seed for the upcoming Southern California Regional Playoffs. Rio Hondo will host No. 18 Cerritos College in a Round 1 game on Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Spectators will be allowed at the contest but a mask must be worn at all times. Ticket prices for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) postseason game at Rio Hondo are $12 for general admission and $8 for all identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children under 12 years old.

Rio Hondo is making its third consecutive postseason appearance over the past four seasons under head coach Rene Herrera. The Roadrunners enter the playoffs with an 11-15 overall record and went 3-5 in the highly-competitive South Coast Conference North Division.  

Conference foe Cerritos is 19-5 overall heading into Tuesday's contest. The Falcons, under head coach Trisha Kozlowski, went 9-1 in SCC South Division play to earn a share of the title.

Tuesday marks the third meeting of the season between the two squads. On Nov. 12, Cerritos picked up a 57-49 win over the Roadrunners at the Riverside City College Tournament. Rio Hondo came away with the victory on Dec. 3 when the Roadrunners beat the Falcons 67-62 in overtime at the Irvine Valley College Tournament.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to Round 2 to face No. 2 Irvine Valley College on Thursday, March 3 in Irvine. Three wins are needed by the Roadrunners to advance to the CCCAA Basketball State Championships on March 11-13 at West Hills College Lemoore.

Second Team – Tiah Sherman (Fr., G), Denise Jiminez (Fr., F)
