Women’s Basketball: Lee, Smith top list of 4 All-SCC selections

Four members of the 2019-20 Rio Hondo College women's basketball team were recently named to the All-South Coast Conference postseason team. Heading the list are first-team honorees Amanda Lee and Sally Smith while Amy Navarro and Candace were second-team picks.

Lee, a sophomore guard out of Gabrielino High School, was a first-team selection for the second straight year. She closed out the regular season leading the Roadrunners in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game. Lee also averaged 4.8 assists and 3.5 steals to also lead her squad. Her assists ranked third in the South Coast Conference while her steals were fourth.

Lee scored a season-high 26 points in a win over College of the Canyons. In a win over Allan Hancock College, she nearly had a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Smith, out of Mark Keppel High School, had an impressive freshman season for Rio Hondo. She was second on the squad, averaging 12.4 PPG. Smith also averaged 2.9 steals, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Her finest game of the season came in a win over Pasadena City College when she totaled a double-double with a season-high 20 points and 12 rebounds. Smith added 5 steals and 3 assists.

Navarro was huge underneath the rim for the Roadrunners, leading Rio Hondo averaging 9.1 rebounds per game. The sophomore from El Rancho High School also chipped in with 7.8 PPG. Black, another sophomore from Diamond Bar High School, averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.2 steals during the regular season.

Rio Hondo is headed to the postseason with a 20-8 overall record. The Roadrunners finished second in the South Coast Conference North Division with a 5-3 mark. The host Cypress College in a second-round Southern California Regional Playoff game on Friday (Feb. 28).
