Women’s Basketball: Slow start hurts Rio Hondo in loss to ELAC

Amanda Lee scored a team-high 23 points while Amy Navarro grabbed 12 rebounds to lead No. 14 Rio Hondo College in an 88-64 South Coast Conference North Division loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday in Whittier.

East Los Angeles, ranked No. 2 in Southern California, set the pace early and took a commanding 33-14 lead after the first quarter. Rio Hondo managed just 11 points in the second and was down 53-25 at halftime.

Candace Black totaled 10 points for Rio Hondo. Black and Lee were the lone Roadrunners to score in double figures. Lee added 5 assists while Black contributed 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Robyn Quintana dished out 6 assists and Maria Beatrice Tabano totaled 5 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

With the loss, Rio Hondo fell to 14-10 overall and 1-3 in SCC North Division play. The Roadrunners will look to get back on track on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 7 p.m. when they travel to face No. 4 Mt. San Antonio College in a SCC North game.
