Women’s Basketball: Rio Hondo beats Cuesta in tourney consolation final
The Rio Hondo College women’s basketball team capped a 2-1 weekend with a 70-59 victory over Cuesta College in the consolation final of the Irvine Valley College Tournament on Saturday.

The Rio Hondo College women's basketball team capped a 2-1 weekend with a 70-59 victory over Cuesta College in the consolation final of the Irvine Valley College Tournament on Saturday.
Rio Hondo, ranked No. 18 in the state and No. 8 in Southern California, improved its overall record to 8-3.
Freshman Amy Navarro was named to the IVC All-Tournament team after totaling 24 points and 18 rebounds over three games.
Rio Hondo 70, Cuesta 59
Christina Hilton nearly had a triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists in the Roadrunners' consolation final win over No. 15 SoCal-ranked Cuesta.
Rio Hondo took a commanding 41-26 lead at halftime and was never threatened. The Roadrunners shot 48 percent from the field (30-for-62) and outrebounded the Cougars by a 38-29 margin.
Amanda Lee led Rio Hondo with 18 points and added 7 assists. Navarro also had a big game with 12 points and 7 rebounds while Robyn Quintana came off the bench to post 12 points and 5 boards.
Rio Hondo 76, Desert 40
The Roadrunners reach the consolation final thanks to its 76-40 rout of College of the Desert on Friday. Leading 19-10 after the first quarter, Rio Hondo blew the game open by outscoring COD 27-8 in the second.
13 different Roadrunners scored in the contest. Candace Black's 14 points off the bench led Rio Hondo. Lee had a good all-around game with 13 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Hilton chipped in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, and 3 blocks.
El Camino 75, Rio Hondo 53
Rio Hondo opened the tourney on Thursday with a loss to No. 17 state-ranked El Camino. An 8-2 run by the Warriors put Roadrunners never recovered.
Lee scored a team-high 16 points for the Roadrunners while Navarro posted 12 points and 6 rebounds. Hilton was a spark off the bench for Rio Hondo and contributed 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Up next, the Roadrunners return to action on Dec. 13 when they open play at the West Hills College Tournament in Lemoore.
