WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College battled but suffered a 6-0 South Coast Conference loss to No. 5 state-ranked Long Beach City College on Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Roadrunners managed four hits in the contest, led by a 2 for 3 effort at the plate by freshman Alona Sanchez.
LBCC jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and was up 4-0 after two. Rio Hondo starter Alexia Mayorga allowed 4 earned runs and 8 hits in a complete-game effort in the circle.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 3-28 overall and 1-20 in South Coast Conference play. The Roadrunners are back in action on April 15 when they travel to Compton College for a 3 p.m. SCC game.
