Softball: Rio Hondo closes season with loss to East LA

Victoria Medina went 3-for-3 at the plate while Desiree Rhodes and Janae Moreno both drove in two runs each to lead Rio Hondo College in its 2018 season-finale, a 15-5 South Coast Conference loss to visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday.

Big innings by the Huskies hurt Rio Hondo as East Los Angeles rallied for four runs in the third to erase a 3-2 Roadrunners' lead and seven runs in the fifth to put the eight-run mercy rule into effect.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Rio Hondo put up three runs tp go ahead. Rhodes smashed a two-run home run to cap the rally. And down 6-3 in the third, Moreno hit a two-run single to get Rio Hondo within one. But the Roadrunners would get no closer.

East LA scored nine runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach.

Taylor Alcala took the loss for Rio Hondo after allowing six earned runs and 10 hits over 3 ⅓ innings. The Roadrunners end the season with a 5-34-1 overall record and went 0-12 in conference play.
