Softball: Rio Hondo gets No. 18 seed for Regionals, travels to No. 15 Ventura
Rio Hondo College has been awarded the No. 18 seed and will travel to face No. 15 Ventura College on Tuesday (May 3) in a play-in round game of the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Rio Hondo College has been awarded the No. 18 seed and will travel to face No. 15 Ventura College on Tuesday (May 3) in a play-in round game of the 2016 Southern California Regional Playoffs.
No. 16 Long Beach City College (22-18) hosts No. 17 Bakersfield College (18-21-1) in Tuesday's other play-in game. The lowest remaining seeded team from those games will take on No. 1 Cypress College (35-5) with the other team traveling to face No. 2 Santiago Canyon College (32-7) in a best-of-three first-round playoff series that begins on Saturday, May 7.
Rio Hondo enters the postseason with a 16-24 overall record and finished second in the Foothill Conference with a 10-5 mark. The Roadrunners are making their second consecutive postseason appearance under head coach Bianca Urquidi. Rio Hondo is currently riding a four-game winning streak.
Ventura compiled a 26-13 overall record and finished second in the Western State Conference Gold Division at 13-5. The Pirates are surging to the playoffs, having won nine straight and 11 of their last 13 games. Ventura returns to the postseason for the first time since 2013.
The playoff contest is set 2 p.m. first pitch at the VC Softball Complex. Admission prices, set by the California Community College Athletic Association, will be $12 for adults and $8 for students, faculty, staff, seniors (60 and over) and children under 12.
