Rio Hondo College freshman Brenae Martinez scattered four hits over a five-inning, complete-game shutout while Mylene Valencia went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI to help lead the Roadrunners to a 9-0 Foothill Conference victory over visiting San Bernardino Valley College on Wednesday. The mercy-rule win improved Rio Hondo to 9-17 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Rio Hondo jumped on San Bernardino Valley (7-20, 2-4 FC) starting pitcher Terilyn Baude early by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Roadrunners added four runs in the fourth to put into effect the eight-run mercy rule.

With the win, Martinez improved to 8-16 overall for Rio Hondo. She struck out three and walked one.
