Softball: Roadrunners' offense explodes in 20-5 rout over LA Harbor

Rio Hondo College snapped a two-game losing streak with a big 20-5 non-conference win over visiting Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday. The Roadrunners offense totaled season-highs with 20 runs and 17 hits in the five-inning, mercy-rule victory.

Harbor opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning to take a short-lived lead. Rio Hondo answered by scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first before adding three more in the second and six runs in the third.

Mylene Valencia went 2 for 3 with a team-high 4 RBI while Esthefany Martinez (3 for 5, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Gabrielle Salavdor (3 for 3, 3 runs), and Brittany Salcido (3 for 4, 3 RBI, 2 runs) all had big games at the plate as well. Nadiya Lozano scored four runs while going 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Brenae Martinez went the distance in the circle for Rio Hondo, allowing five runs and nine hits as she improved to 5-14 overall.

With the win, Rio Hondo improved to 6-15 overall. The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 8) when they travel to Fullerton College for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
