Rio Hondo College totaled just five hits in a narrow 3-2 non-conference loss at Citrus College on Thursday. The defeat drop the Roadrunners to 5-15 while Citrus improved to 3-7.
Rio Hondo scored both its runs in the second innings to take a brief 2-1 advantage. Mylene Valencia doubled down the right-field line to drive in Brittany Salcido and Brenae Martinez' fielder's choice grounder allowed Elaine Verdugo to score.
But that would be all for the Roadrunners. The Owls got a run in the bottom of the second to tie up the game and went ahead for good with a run in the fifth.
Martinez (4-14) took the loss after allowing three runs and six hits over six innings,
Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Mar. 4) when the Roadrunners will face a future South Coast Conference opponent. Rio Hondo hosts L.A. Harbor College at 3 p.m.
