Softball: Rio Hondo falls 12-3 in five innings to L.A. Valley

Rio Hondo College fell to 3-6 overall after a 12-3 non-conference loss to visiting Los Angeles Valley College on Wednesday.

The Roadrunners will look to snap a three-game losing streak on Friday (Feb. 12) when they travel to San Diego Mesa College for a doubleheader that starts at 11 a.m.

L.A. Valley (2-3) jumped on Rio Hondo starting pitcher Brenae Martinez early, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. The Monarchs added five runs in the third and one more in the fifth before Rio Hondo finally got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Mylene Valencia led the Roadrunners at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a RBI. Sophomore Elaine Verdugo and freshman Nadiya Lozano also drove in runs for Rio Hondo.
