WHITTIER – Alexander Duenez and David Gutierrez both scored three goals each to help lead the Rio Hondo College men's water polo team to a 12-10 South Coast Conference win over visiting Chaffey College on Wednesday.

The victory evened up the Roadrunners' conference record at 2-2 and improved their overall mark to 5-9. Rio Hondo has won three of its last four games.

The Roadrunners held a comfortable 10-6 advantage heading into the fourth quarter before Chaffey rallied to score four times in the final period. But thanks to late goals by Duenez and Jose Jaime, the Roadrunners were able to hang on for the victory.

Rio Hondo built up a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and went into halftime leading 8-3. Jaime Albarran and Jaime both scored twice while Chris Bonilla and Aaron Ayala also scored once.

Steven Perez posted nine saves in goal to earn the win.

The Roadrunners return to action this Friday (Oct. 7) when they will compete at the two-day Riverside City College Tournament. Rio Hondo is scheduled to face Grossmont College at 9:10 am and LA Valley College at 12:40 pm on Day 1.
