Swimming & Diving: Two wins for Roadrunners in opening SCC dual meet

Both the Rio Hondo College men's and women's swimming & diving teams got the 2019 dual meet season going with a great start, as the men defeated Los Angeles Trade-Tech College by a final score of 173-52 while the women handled East Los Angeles College 123-81 on Friday at LA Trade-Tech.

The Roadrunner men took first place in 13 of the 14 events, including wins by freshman Armen Duran in the 200 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. Sophomore Matthew Viteri also won all three of his events, taking first in the 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly, and 200 backstroke.

The Rio Hondo women won 9 of 14 events, including 5 of the last 6 to erase a 63-60 East Los Angeles lead and pull out the team victory.

Both the men's and women's squads return to action next Friday (Mar. 8-9) to compete at the two-day Chaffey Invite being held at Riverside City College.
