WILMINGTON – Cesar Naranjo's goal in the 84th minute proved to be the game-winner for Rio Hondo College in a 2-1 South Coast Conference win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.
With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 6-5-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
Rio Hondo struck first, getting a goal from Adan Villareal in the 13th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners held that narrow advantage into halftime but LA Harbor got the equalizer in the 55th thanks to a goal by Adrian Garcia.
The contest appeared to be on its way to a tie, but Naranjo broke free to score unassisted late in the game to help lead Rio Hondo to the win.
Goalkeeper Arturo Bustamante was solid for the Roadrunners. He posted 7 saves to earn the win.
Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Oct. 14) when the Roadrunners travel to Los Angeles City College for a 7 p.m. South Coast Conference game.
