Men's Soccer: First-half lead holds up as Rio Hondo beats El Camino 3-2

Three different Roadrunners scored as Rio Hondo College topped the El Camino College Warriors by a final score of 3-2 on Tuesday in a physical South Coast Conference interdivision match in Torrance.

Rio Hondo is unbeaten over its last six contests and improved to 7-2-5 overall and 2-0-2 in SCC play.

The Roadrunners outshot El Camino by a narrow 16-14 margin but the Warriors hammered Rio Hondo throughout the game, earning 13 fouls, two yellow cards, and a red card to Andy Marin in the eighth minute.

Rio Hondo wasted little time in capitalizing on its one-man advantage as the Roadrunners promptly took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute thanks to a goal by Alejandro Luna off the assist by Angle Flores. Reyes Jaimes scored the equalizer for the Warriors in the 11th minute before Edgar Perez gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 halftime lead with his goal in the 30th minute.

Sergio Ramos added to Rio Hondo's lead with a much-needed insurance goal in the 77th with the assist coming from Ricky Sotelo. Jaimes broke free for his second score in the 87th minute for El Camino, but the Roadrunners were able to hang on for the narrow win.

Jose Paredes earned the victory in goal for Rio Hondo as he posted four saves. For El Camino (0-11-2, 0-3-1 SCC), Hector Gutierrez had four saves in the first half to lead the Warriors.

Rio Hondo returns to action on Friday (Oct. 21) when the Roadrunners host Long Beach City College in a 6 p.m. SCC interdivision game.
