Men's Soccer: Rio Hondo unbeaten streak snapped with loss at SMC

The Rio Hondo College men's soccer team couldn't get much going offensively  on the road on Friday and suffered a 3-0 loss at Santa Monica College to wrap up the non-conference schedule for the Roadrunners.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 4-2-2 overall this season and ended the Roadrunners' five-game unbeaten streak.

Santa Monica (4-3-2 overall) set the tone early by getting a goal in the second minute. Another goal in the 18th carried the Corsairs to a 2-0 halftime lead before a final score in the 75th closed out the match.

Edwin Elizarraraz and Jose Paredes did all they could to keep the Roadrunners in the contest. Splitting time in goal, the pair combined for four saves. Rio Hondo managed just three shots on goal, all stopped by Santa Monica keeper Idaul Ezquivel.

The Roadrunners return to action next Friday (Sep. 30) at 6 p.m. when they open South Coast Conference North Division play at East Los Angeles College.
