Freshman Angel Flores' goal in the 51st minute proved to be all the offense Rio Hondo College needed as the Roadrunners held on for a 1-0 victory over West Valley College on Friday at the Mt. SAC Adidas/Azteca Soccer Tournament.
The win was the first of the year for the Roadrunners as they improved to 1-1-1 overall early in the season. They next face Oxnard College on Sunday to close out the Mt. SAC tourney.
After a scoreless first half on Friday, Flores broke free for an unassisted goal in the 51st minute. The Roadrunners' defense held steady while freshman goalkeeper Jose Paredes posted five saves to lead Rio Hondo to its first shutout of the season.
