Men's Soccer: RHC opens new soccer complex with 1-1 draw vs. MiraCosta

Sophomore Luis Munoz' (Baldwin Park HS) goal in the 30th minute was the equalizer in Rio Hondo College's 1-1 draw against the visiting MiraCosta College Spartans on Friday as the Roadrunners opened up their brand new on-campus soccer facility.

MiraCosta (0-0-1) got on the scoreboard first in both squads' season opener, thanks to a penalty kick goal in the 22nd minute by Van Guimaraes Pereira De Moraes to give the Spartans the early advantage.

Munoz evened the score with his goal off the assist from Antonio Villegas (Don Lugo HS). His name will go down in history as the first Roadrunner to score in the new complex.

That would be all for both teams as the defenses closed out the match with 60 minutes of scoreless soccer. Freshman goalkeeper Jose Paredes (El Monte HS) posted five saves in his debut for Rio Hondo.

The Roadrunners (0-0-1) will look to earn their first win on Tuesday (Aug. 30) when they host LA Mission College at 6 p.m.
