Title: Assistant Coach

Tyler Ellis is entering his 2nd season (2022-23) as an assistant coach for the Roadrunners. Coach Ellis’s primary focus is offensive game planning, scouting opponents, recruiting, and player development.

Ellis played at Downey High where he was team MVP, an all-league selection, and an all-area selection. He then played at Rio Hondo College where he was team captain and named a notable prospect in CA entering his Sophomore season. After playing for Rio Hondo he would go onto play at Bethel College (NAIA) in KS.

Coach Ellis’s prior coaching stops include time as a varsity assistant and lower level head coach at Downey High & Pioneer High. He has also coached and had administrative duties with two AAU programs, Whittier Thunder and Team Nikos Long Beach.

Ellis has a BA in Kinesiology from CSUDH and a MA in coaching/ athletics administration from CUI. He is currently a PE teacher at Fremont High and resides in Torrance with his wife Leslie.

Rio Hondo College 2010-2012
- Team captain sophomore season at Rio Hondo
- Named among top-100 junior college prospect in CA entering sophomore season

Bethel College in Kansas (NAIA) 2013-14 Season.

Coaching Experience
High School
- Head coach lower levels and assisted varsity at Downey High School for 5 years under one of longest tenured and winningest coaches in Southern California, Larry Shelton.
- Head coach of 3 San Gabriel Valley League Champion lower-level teams while at Downey
- Also head coached lower levels and assisted varsity for a season at Pioneer High School

AAU
- 3 years as the head coach of Whittier Thunder’s 15u-17u teams. Accomplishments include fab 48 quarterfinalists finish, winning the world youth basketball tournament in Hawaii.
- 2 years with Team Nikos Long Beach as the head coach of the 9u-12u teams. Also served as the programs Vice President and Director of Operations which included duties such as running the Long Beach NJB youth basketball league.

- Currently a Physical Education teacher at John C. Fremont High School
- MA in Coaching and Athletics Administration from Concordia University, Irvine (CUI) 4.0 GPA.
- BA in Kinesiology, teaching option from CSUDH, honors in the major.
