WHITTIER – Dorian Tate and Nate Carter both scored 25 points each but Rio Hondo College couldn't hold on to a late lead and suffered a 92-91 South Coast Conference interdivision loss to visiting Compton College on Friday night.
Carter nailed a three-pointer at the 3:30 mark in the second half to extend the Roadrunners' lead to 89-82. But Compton closed out the contest with a 10-2 run to hand Rio Hondo another heart-breaking defeat. The Roadrunners likely ran out of gas as they played the entire game with just six players.
Tate had a huge game, posting a double-double with 25 points and 17 rebounds. He also added 5 assists. Carter totaled 6 rebounds and 3 assists to go along with his season-high 25 points. Jordan Peterson sank 4 three-pointers on his way to 17 points and Isaiah Rouss contributed 12 points and 5 assists.
The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 1-16 overall. The Roadrunners will look to end a five-game losing streak on Wednesday (Jan. 15) when they travel to Cerritos College for a 7 p.m. SCC interdivision game.
