Men's Basketball: Martinez scores 19 points in Rio Hondo loss at Mt. SAC

Sophomore Jonathan Martinez put up 19 points to lead Rio Hondo College in an 86-61 South Coast Conference North Division loss at Mt. San Antonio College on Wednesday.

Mt. SAC got off to a fast start, opening the game with a 10-0 run and was up 20-5 at the 12:55 mark in the first half. Rio Hondo trailed 51-24 at the break, but bounced back in the second to outscore the Mounties 37-35.

Martinez put together a strong all-around game, adding 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals to his team-high 19 points. He sank 3 three-pointers and shot a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line.

Kevin Sandoval made 4 three-point baskets on his way to 12 points. Bryant Howing added 12 points as well and Elijah McElroy chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds.

The loss dropped the Roadrunners to 3-20 overall and 0-5 in SCC North Division play. Rio Hondo will look to snap a 12-game losing streak when it returns to action on Friday (Feb. 8) when it travels to Pasadena City College for a 5 p.m. SCC North game.
