Elijah McElroy led Rio Hondo College with 18 points and 7 rebounds in a 96-72 South Coast Conference North Division loss to visiting Chaffey College on Wednesday in Whittier.

The Roadrunners trailed Chaffey (16-6, 3-1 SCC) 42-35 at halftime but couldn't keep pace in the second. The Panthers outscored Rio Hondo 54-37 to close out the contest and cruise to their win.

Rio Hondo made 9 three-pointers in the game, but that was overshadowed by 12 three-point buckets made by Chaffey. Kevin Sandoval nailed 4 three-pointers on his way to 12 points.

Jonathan Martinez scored 16 points while Uziel Felix contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jonathan Strachan made his return to the court after missing the last 13 games for the Roadrunners. He came off the bench to score 6 points and grab 6 rebounds.

The loss dropped Rio Hondo to 3-18 overall and 0-3 in SCC North Division play. The Roadrunners will look to snap their 10-game losing streak on Friday (Feb. 1) when they host East Los Angeles College in a 5 p.m. SCC North game.
