Men’s Basketball: Short-handed Roadrunners fall to Compton

Elijah McElroy scored a team-high 23 points while Uziel Felix posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 assists but a short-handed Rio Hondo College men's basketball squad fell to visiting Compton College by a final score of 94-79 on Friday night in Whittier.

Playing just six players in the game, the Roadrunners stayed close with Compton and was down by just three points, 33-30 at halftime.

But Rio Hondo couldn't keep up in the second and was outscored 61-49. Compton outrebounded the Roadrunners by a 47-16 margin for the game which led to numerous second and third-chance scoring opportunities.

McElroy nearly added a double-double of his own as he posted 9 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 2 steals. Jonathan Martinez put up his 12th consecutive double-digit scoring game, this time pouring in 21 points.

Jet Ting made his debut for the Roadrunners, their lone sub in the game, and scored 3 points.

Rio Hondo, now 3-11 overall, continues South Coast Conference interdivision play on Wednesday (Jan. 9) when the Roadrunners travel to Long Beach City College for a 5 p.m. game.
